Why did you choose the MCW-Prevea Family Medicine program? I chose the Prevea Family Medicine program because of its deep commitment to serving underserved populations and refugees. This struck a chord with me personally, as my family and I were once immigrants facing significant barriers to healthcare. The support we received from programs similar to Prevea’s was invaluable and life-changing. I am driven by a desire to repay that kindness by dedicating myself to this field and making a meaningful impact on the lives of others. I eagerly anticipate honing my skills and knowledge within the program, aspiring to become an exceptional family physician who embodies compassion and excellence in serving those in need.

Chukwudi Agbor, MD

Alia Fonseca, MD

Hometown: Huntington Beach, CA

Medical Interests: Addiction Medicine, Lifestyle Medicine, Psychiatry in primary care, Pain management

Other Medical Experience: I worked on and off for more than a decade at my father’s orthopedic surgery private practice in Southern California, holding various clerical and patient-centered positions.

Why did you choose the MCW-Prevea Family Medicine program? I was drawn to Prevea because it is a physician-owned healthcare system, which I believe fosters a collaborative and responsive environment. I was also excited about the prospect of joining a new residency program for several reasons. New programs tend to be more open to feedback and innovation, which aligns with my interest in leadership roles. These programs also offer abundant opportunities for growth and development.

Additionally, I was particularly interested in the clinical experiences offered, such as working in addiction medicine, refugee care, and on a reservation. These unique experiences will help me expand my skills and make a meaningful impact on underserved populations. Another appealing aspect of the program is its didactic curriculum, which prepares residents to sit for the Lifestyle Medicine boards upon graduation. Lastly, the program is unopposed, giving me an abundance of front row and hands on experience.

While I have never been to Wisconsin, I was excited about the opportunity to serve a new community with distinct needs. The region offers a lower cost of living, and there is a strong demand for primary care physicians, making it an ideal place for me to grown professionally while contributing to a community in need.

Interests/Hobbies Outside of Medicine: Performing improv comedy, shopping, collecting earrings, hot yoga, cycling, hiking, watching films (especially horror/foreign), eating food from different cultures, cross stitching, embroidering, crocheting, reading, philosophy, languages, hanging out with friends and family, travel
