PROGRAM DIRECTOR’S WELCOME

Thank you for your interest in our program. Founded in 2021, the MCW-Prevea Green Bay Family Medicine Residency offers a uniquely individualized and innovative training experience in one of the most dynamic regions of Wisconsin. Nestled in the vibrant and diverse community of Green Bay, our residency is designed to train compassionate, forward-thinking family physicians who are equipped to lead and thrive in any care setting.

As an unopposed program, our residents work at HSHS St. Vincent Hospital, a major regional referral center that offers unmatched clinical depth. HSHS St. Vincent is the primary stroke center, trauma center, pediatric hospital, and the busiest labor and delivery hospital in Green Bay. Our residents care for the most complex patients from across Northeast Wisconsin and Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, gaining advanced experience in hospital medicine, critical care, obstetrics, and emergency medicine—all without competition from other residency programs. You will be the doctor in the room, not one of many.

Our hospital experiences are complemented by a beautiful, state-of-the-art outpatient clinic, custom-built for residency training and located within a large, physician-owned health system. Prevea Health, our founding partner, has generously supported the creation and ongoing growth of our program, demonstrating a strong commitment to expanding the family medicine workforce in this region. Our residents benefit from deep ties to the Prevea network, with mentorship and career opportunities throughout the system.

We offer a highly customizable residency experience, tailored to meet the individual goals of each resident. From day one, you will receive close support from a dedicated faculty team, all of whom maintain open-door policies and take pride in mentoring and advocating for our residents. Wellness is a core part of our culture, and we emphasize balance, purpose, and personal growth throughout the curriculum.

We are proud to offer cutting-edge curricular experiences that prepare residents to lead in modern primary care:

  • Hospital Medicine Excellence: Unopposed rotations at HSHS St. Vincent provide unmatched training in high-acuity care.
  • Addiction Medicine: With two board-certified addiction medicine physicians on faculty, residents gain robust training in medication-assisted treatment and behavioral interventions in a longitudinal, integrated setting.
  • Lifestyle Medicine: All graduates are eligible for board certification in lifestyle medicine at no additional cost, learning the evidence-based foundations of nutrition, physical activity, stress management, and mindfulness.
  • LGBTQ+ Health Care: We serve as a regional hub for comprehensive healthcare for our LGBTQ+ community.
  • Rural Medicine: Residents rotate through rural sites in Oconto Falls and Ashland, with more sites actively being developed.
  • Sports Medicine: Residents have access to sidelining and locker room experiences with local collegiate and professional teams and benefit from direct mentorship by sports medicine faculty who work with Green Bay’s major professional franchises.
  • Artificial Intelligence Leadership: As a member of the STFM National AI Taskforce, I work closely with faculty nationwide to advance AI integration in family medicine. Here in Green Bay, all residents have access to DAX ambient AI scribes from day one, and we teach residents how to harness these tools to enhance clinical documentation, reduce burnout, and improve patient care.
  • Medical Education: Our residents are embedded in the educational mission of the MCW-Green Bay regional campus, mentoring medical students in the clinic, hospital, and classroom—an experience that prepares them for future academic or leadership roles.

Ultimately, our mission is to train residents who are deeply competent, community-connected, and prepared to innovate in primary care. Whether your passion lies in hospital medicine, underserved care, rural practice, addiction treatment, or technological innovation, our program provides the tools, mentorship, and opportunities to make it happen.

I invite you to explore our website and learn more about how we are building one of the most forward-thinking family medicine residency programs in the Midwest. We would be thrilled to welcome you to Green Bay and support your journey to becoming the physician leader your community needs.

Warm regards,
