Over the past several months, our residents and faculty have been involved with some community service opportunities. Serving the community is central to our mission here in Green Bay.

In March, the residency provided and served dinner at Freedom House Ministries, a local shelter for families experiencing homelessness.

The residents, faculty, and families who attended prepared, served, and then ate dinner with the shelter families. This was an event that was incredibly meaningful to all involved. Our chief, Dr. Austin Wills, took his role very seriously.

Also in March, two of our residents — Dr. Lillian Whalen and Dr. Alex Burns — presented to 5th graders at Lineville Intermediate. Dr. Whalen taught the students about the Gut-Brain Axis, providing probiotic and prebiotic treats for the students to try. Dr. Burns taught the students about basic hygiene and why it’s important as well the career pathway to becoming a doctor. Both our residents did a wonderful job engaging with these 10-11 year old students!

In April, our residents participated in a skin cancer screening event. This not only provided a service to the community but also extra practice with dermascopes and assessing for skin cancer concerns.

In July, residents volunteered to run concessions at Miracle League of Green Bay. The Miracle League is an organization that makes it possible for children with special needs to play baseball.
